  • Bulldog Marketing: How to Blog and Podcast using a Topic Specific Approach is now available as a PDF Download for 29.95. This workbook will walk you through How to connect to your vision, create a Topic list, and then slowly but simply take you through the steps to get a blog up on TypePad and a podcast with Hipcast using screenshots and non-technical language. If you want to start blogging, but consider yourself 'technically challenged' than this is for you. If you already understand how all of this stuff works, I have one comment... Where were you when I was trying to figure all of this stuff out???!!

It's a Girl! It's a Boy!

  • Whew! Tamara has been busy since having a litter of puppies right before Christmas. Congratulations to Eric and everyone at Mubev Bulldogs, and thanks for once again taking some great picutures!

Bulldogs are:

  • Tenacious! Did you know that they were bred to fight bulls that are more than 10 times their size? They could do that by hanging on to thier noses and and not let go. Now that's focus!

Meet Tamara

  • Thanks to Erik at Mubev Bulldogs for sharing his awesome pictures of Tamara! Check out his website for more great photos.

Go Ugly Early!

  • Going Ugly Early means from a content standpoint, get your stuff out there, and let the market tweak and fine tune it for you. Blogs are a perfect way to do that. Be willing to set yourself up for both positive and negative feedback and roll with the punches. A picture perfect manuscipt that has only had your critical eye on it's pages isn't doing anything. Get your message out, and see what happens!

Who is Brutus?

  • Brutus is a bulldog that I adopted and had for about a year. At the time I got him, I was working from home, not traveling so much, and was able to take care of him the way dogs deserve to be taken care of. After about a year, my lifestyle changed drastically, and I was out of town alot. Sure, Brutus had his doggie day care person, but it wasn't the kind of life I thought he should have. One of the hardest things I did was let Brutus be adopted by another family that really loves him. They had just lost one of their dogs, and had the kind of situation that would be great for him, so he lives with them now, and has a great life. I learned a lot from Brutus, and one of the biggest lessons he taught me was non-attachment. Thanks Brutie! ;)

Awesome, Kirsten. I like. The Blog Squad likes. I'm planning on doing a Typepad website to replace my Customized Newsletter website...very soon. Thanks for blazing this trail and showing the possibilities.

Piotr

Thank you very much. The best are simple ideas and solutions (not all of them, of course). Your example is very useful. Good luck.

this is awesome, thank you for doing this. i am thinking about getting rid of my "website" uping my typepad account to pro, and creating a "blog website," after seeing this. i would love to have a traditional website, but i cannot for the life of me get the designing, and i can't afford the software, however typepad, with people like you sharing such good info makes typepad a very easy interface to use.

one question, how did you list the pages into the typelist? is is simply a matter of linking to the typepad page? could you elaborate on that for me, i would really appreciate it.

Thanks a million!

Kirsten Farris

Kiandra,

Thanks for your comment, and I am glad that you find this stuff useful!

All I did, was create a Link Typelist, and titled it Go To>>

Once I created all of the pages, I simply Titled each page and then put in the page link.

You will want to check the configure tab on the link typelist to make sure that your links are in the right order, and that you can show all of your page links there. I did a site for somebody that had 12 links, and I couldn't figure out why only 10 would show up...it is in the configure section...

Thanks again, and good luck!

Kiandra Jimenez

Thanks for clearing that up, it was one of those things where I wasn't for sure if I knew exactly how to go about it. Thanks for such a speedy response, after reading this post, the light bulb turned on and I have a very clear direction of where to go with my business. This is literally the post that made it click for me...so I cannot thank you enough! Please keep doing this, because there are people like me who just need a little direction to accomplish their dreams.

Thanks a million, I'm going to spread the word about your blog!

btw, fridge came this morning...and it is the bees knees! can't wait to fill it up with goodies!

Kirsten - Wow, I'm impressed! What a simple way to create a professional website. I'm definitely going to send people your way when they ask me about how to get a web presence!

Thanks for all the great info.

Hi Kirsten,
What is it that I'm not understanding about this "new" feature. I've been using typelists to make my blog look like a regular website for 2 sites now. What is it I'm missing?

Dan

Thanks for taking the time to create and show folks an example of the "Pages" feature. Just signed up and am trying to take in as much as possible. Helps a lot to see it from idea to full expression. Thanks again!! ~Dan

Kristen,

Wow I like that very much, thanks for the example, as I was not really clear what the advantage would be. I am definitely going to try to make one. I look forward to visiting your blog often.

Thanks again,
Pennie

Your instructions were perfect! Worked like a charm! Check out www.nestinginstinctsinc.com to see how I was able to create a website for my business in about an hour -- thank you so much! It will be added to and enhanced as time goes on -- but this is a great start -- thanks so much!

Thanks for the tip... I just put up a personal site using the typepad pages... Check it out here:

DIANE

this is really useful, thanks!

one question: does the same banner have to appear on every page?

Kirsten Farris

Diane,

Yes, each page will display the same banner, but for a simple workaround, you could just set up a second blog with TypePad and then customize the page the way you want it to look, and link it to your main site.
You could probably also do it using CSS and Advanced Templates, but hey, I don't know how to do all that stuff!

Karin H.

Hi Kirsten

Found this post through Kent Blumbergs blog. A friend and I have started blogworkshops, using the typepad platform too.
Your 'sample' is exactly what we think could benefit many 'business' neo-bloggers, but can I add a little tip? I used this when I created a friend's blog: when you use a 'page' as home-page (where you land on when clicking the banner, etc) I've added a (typelist) link to the blog index: all articles and posts, which brings the reader to the 'blog' division of the 'website' (in those cases of course when you want to combine both fixed pages with the 'blog')

Karin,

Great Suggestion! I went to your blog, and saw this in action. It is a great way to give readers easy access to your posts, and like you said, when they land on the first page, they will have more of an idea of what type of content you have.
Good luck with your upcoming Advanced Blogging Workshop!

DIANE

Hi again Kirsten, just wanted to thank you so much for your help with this - I've (almost!) built a site I'm very happy with, and it was pretty easy, so thanks! :) x

karen

Hi Kristin,
Oh, I have tried and tried your suggestions but not sure if there is a way to work this out....if you see my current blog (www.achildgrowsinbrooklyn.com), I have a whole host of typelists that refer to posts. I.E. - Medical Care- refers to Pediatricians, Lactation Consultants etc. I would rather just have the typelist point to a series of pages. This way it wouldn't be such a long list of titles and subposts. Is there a way to do this? I would SO appreciate your help (I am lost after 3 hours of trying!)
thanks
Karen

Heady

thanks for this info. i'm trying to decide if i want to start using typepad and this may have help me with my decision. thanks a bunch
